A Dance Screening involves thorough assessment of musculoskeletal structures and dance movement patterns to allow for Risk of Injury identification and prehabilitation.

Dance Physio

Dance Education

Dance Physio is a 1-to-1 session involving physiotherapy assessment and treatment. We provide accurate diagnoses for injuries, and professional advice for safe return to dance. Additionally, we create individualised strengthening and mobility programmes for injury prevention and rehabilitation.

 

Common Dance Injuries:

Dance conditions and injuries commonly managed at Tweak Physio include:

  • Back injuries

  • Hip, groin or thigh strains

  • Knee and leg injuries

  • Ankle and foot sprains

  • Rotator cuff strains and tears

  • Shoulder and wrist sprains

Our Dance Physio, Matthew, is an experienced dancer and performer. Over the years of learning different dance styles, he has come to appreciate the unique physical and artistic demands of each type of dance, as well as the repetitive strain that it can put on the body. Besides being a sport, dance is deeply ingrained into many cultures, and he believes that people of all ages and fitness levels should be able to experience the joys of dance.

After traversing through various dance injuries himself, and guiding other dancers on the road of recovery, Matthew has developed a passion for helping others dance to the best of their abilities. He has experience working with people of all ages, and is committed to helping everyone to continue to participate in their beloved sport(s).

Dance Education is an informative group session designed to equip dance athletes with the knowledge to excel in their sport. Bespoke group sessions can range from 45-90 minutes and can be facilitated as either theory only or included a combination of theory and variety of exercises for flexibility and strengthening.

Topics addressed include:

  • Common injuries (Lower back pain, foot and ankle pain/instability, hip and knee sprains)

  • Importance of Warm Up / Cool Down

  • Dance-specific flexibility (stretching)

  • Functional strengthening for dance

  • Injury prevention
